Singular Wines fruit of Tradition

Vinos Singulares fruto de la Tradición

HISTORY

In 1998, the journalist Víctor de la Serna created our wine estate from scratch, in Ledaña (Cuenca), in the heart of central Manchuela; a region of the Spanish Southeast, almost forgotten until recently, that offers excellent terroirs of dominant limestone at high altitude.

In 2019, a group of friends led by Ángel and Germán García-Cordero took over from Víctor de la Serna at Finca Sandoval, attracted by the quality potential of the area’s wines.

We have worked to recover the tradition of multi-varietal vineyards and wines, acquiring old plots of our best traditional varieties – Bobal, Monastrell, Garnacha Tinta, Moravia Agria – and also planting a Syrah vineyard.

In any case, the fundamental aspect of the project is to bet on traditional varieties, some of them almost extinct, on the differentiation of vineyards… in short, to value the enormous biodiversity and recover the winemaking tradition of La Manchuela.

PHILOSOPHY

Vineyards with Soul:
The Search for Authenticity and Tradition.

Our work is focused on the vineyard, on working our plots meticulously, knowing that it is there, in the countryside, where great wines are really made. All this with the aim of making wines with an identity of the area, prioritising the sustainability of the vineyard and the environment.

Our wines speak of the territory, of the tradition of the area and of the characteristics of the vintage in which they have been made, maintaining a common denominator year after year based on the vineyard from which they come. Our old vines provide a differentiating element to the wine, obtaining a unique quality.

We work coherently in the winery, with the technical knowledge we have today, but producing in a traditional way that allows us to obtain the purest expression of our grapes, without the technology that today homogenizes wines and leaves them soulless. . That is what we are going to look for, the soul of the wines of Manchuela.

NUESTROS VINOS

NUESTROS VINOS

Aurora

Our first white with the native Albilla Manchega grape and other varieties that are co-planted with our old vine bobales. We carry out direct pressing, fermentation and aging in French oak barrels and clay jars.

This wine has even more freshness, and is very tasty, with more character, more Mediterranean, tasty and with a more saline sensation in the finish.

Fundamentalista

With this wine we try to make the most traditional wine of Manchuela: a Bobal planted more than 80 years ago along with at least 4 other varieties, including 30% white grapes. In the past, people planted the plots like this and we have decided to harvest everything together, without separating anything at all and therefore mixing the Bobal with the rest of the varieties, obtaining a blend that is defined from the vineyard. It is aged in clay jars, seeking to use the most traditional and respectful means.

Es muy bebible, fresco y sabroso. Impresionante.
Tiene una nariz muy limpia y expresiva, es un vino serio y elegante

Salia

It is our town wine, the base of the pyramid. It is a blend of syrah from our estate and bobal from old vineyards. The concept of village wine explains that all the vineyards come from the same municipality and should be a reflection of the wine identity of our town.

It has a strong aromatic typicity of Syrah with floral touches.

Finca Sandoval

It is an assembly of the best plots, those with the most interesting soils in the Casa Blanca area. The area stands out for its limestone soils, and we select those that have less clay and a greater amount of limestone available, that are shallower. This gives the wines greater elegance, structure, minerality and finesse. We assemble different varieties that come from these soils and are aged in barrels for 15 months.

Es perfumado y elegante, con estructura, equilibrado y super fresco, con mucha energía.
Una exuberante nariz Syrah, todo violetas, alquitrán, ahumado grasa de tocino ahumado y toques de piel de naranja.

La Rosa

This is a wine from Parcela, the tip of the winery pyramid. Its name honors a noble product of Manchuela: saffron and its rose. It is made because we consider that it is a special vineyard and we do not want to mix it. The vineyard, planted in 1939, brings together half a dozen varieties, with Bobal predominating among them, and about 10% white grapes, on calcareous gravel.

NUESTRA TIENDA

OUR VINEYARDS

Nestled in La Manchuela, a historically rich but little-known region in the south-east of Spain, Finca Sandoval meticulously cultivates red and white grape varieties. These grapes benefit from a limestone soil and a continental climate, which together allow the production of wines with a marked identity, expressing the rich biodiversity and winemaking heritage of the area. Our vines are over 80 years old, allowing us to obtain grapes of exceptional quality, which is reflected in the wines. In addition, we consider it important to work with organic viticulture, promoting the use of organic fertilizers and phytosanitary products that meet the objectives of organic production, and thus be more responsible with the environment.
